February 20th 2009 - A Review from Pipeline Magazine [By Alan Taylor]: Los Caminos - Test Pilot Test Pilot is Candadian guitar group Los Caminos' second CD – their first, Bullets for Bread, was reviewed in Pipeline 75. They are a four-piece with rhythm guitar and all of the track are group originals. It's a very meaty set, this is rock instrumental with a capital 'R' and both lead and second/rhythm guitar have a tough, wiry sound with just a touch of distortion. Hail To The King makes a fiery starter with its double-picked intro that lead into a familiar surf beat punctuated by catchy staccato riffs. Test Pilot has a similar tempo and some neatly building passages while Walking With The Devil is a cunning amalgam ofThe Savage and Penetration. A neat arrangement aids their dynamic playing on Waikiki Detective and trumpet joins in on themoody Sentenza which has a touch of Los Fantasticos about it. We're back up and rocking for Skull Catcher, the fast rockabilly beat of Torro Torro and insistentriffing chords on Malachi Crunch. Things barely ease off for an intense Tijuana Standoff, but the melody line on Thunder Chief lets down a great Link Wray inspired beat – don't waste it guys, please revisit this one. Sound Barrier is a slow and moody lead into Johnny Raygun as Los Caminos' guitars fire their final salvos at our ears. This is a great blast of an album and definitely not one for the fainthearted. February 13th 2009 - A Review from ReverbCentral.com [By Phil Dirt]: Los Caminos - Test Pilot Album number two from Vancouver's Los Caminos is chock full of dark textures, great melodies, dramatic imagery, and cool ideas. Heavy reliance on surf's sense of flow, spaghetti western's imagery, and modern rock's tonality, Test Pilot! is a very satisfying release. Picks: Hail To The King, Test Pilot, Walking With The Devil, Waikiki Detective, Sentenza, Skull Catcher, Torro Torro, Malachi Crunch, Tijuana Standoff, Thunder Chief, Sound Barrier, Johnny Raygun Test Pilot February 3rd 2009 - A Review from The Vancouver Provice [By Tom Harrison]: The Province Newspaper December 6th 2007 - A Review from Pipeline [By Alan Taylor]: Los Caminos - Bullets For Bread
Well now, if you're a fan of long whammified chords and somber imagery, Bullets For Bread is surely for you. Sweeping visuals, aquatic feelings, dark and moody, and quite satisfying. Picks: Undertow, Thousand Steps, Cloak And Dagger, Slip Stream, Breakfast With The Astronauts, Spring 78, Irene And Her 7 Sisters, Kings Of The Boulevard, Dark Sea, Spaghetti Sunrise Undertow
